“Mahathir was Right” - IMF

Suatu ketika dahulu, Tun Mahathir dihina dan dicerca dengan idea "CAPITAL CONTROL". Hari ini, idea tu telah meresap ke dalam World Bank. Sri Mulyani, seorang bekas pengarah di IMF dan menjadi Menteri Kewangan Indonesia 2005-2010, telah secara TERBUKA menyokong tindakan Tun Mahathir!!! 

 

“During the Asian financial crisis between 1997 and 1998, then-Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad drew international criticism and alienated foreign investors when he imposed capital and currency controls to block speculators betting against the ringgit. Mahathir called George Soros a "moron" and accused him of attacking the country. The billionaire investor responded by describing Mahathir as a "menace to his own country." READ HERE

Antara 2009 – 2010, Tun Mahathir telah menjadi orang yang dihormati dan disegani dalam dunia ekonomi walaupun Tun Mahathir adalah seorang doktor dan bukan seorang ekonomis. Beliau pernah dihina pada 1997. 

“Dr.Mahathir suggested banning currency trading. This is such an inappropriate idea that it doesn’t deserve serious consideration. Interfering with the convertibility of capital at a moment like this is a recipe for disaster. Dr. Mahathir is a menace to his own country”

Semenjak kejatuhan ekonomi dunia pada 2006 hingga 2008, World Bank, Bretton Woods, IMF dan organisasi kewangan dunia lain terpaksa menjilat kembali ludah. Tun Mahathir telah membuat tindakan yang tepat pada 1997. mereka dan menyatakan secara terbuka bahawa ;

“Mahathir was right. With hindsight, we have recognized the good performance of the economy. The performance of the economy since the crisis shows that he is right. Malaysia pegged the Ringgit to the US Dollar five years ago and introduced a host of other capital controls, most of which have since been abolished. Mahathir was right”
